"This is an entirely created scene, easily imagined after watching similar images on television, albeit in daylight.  I felt terrible over their plight, safe and snug in our apartment in Jackson, MS.

When I began writing on this series of Katrina-inspired paintings, I wanted to get close to these people, on the roof with them.  By dusk they knew the loss of light probably also meant their loss of rescue until sometime after dawn.  The canvas was painted black initially, the light colors eventually defining the figures and the other images.
