Brown September

“The city and all entities involved began as quickly as possible to clear the streets of debris after the passage of Katrina. Usually it was simply pushed to either side of the street, creating mounds of “stuff” – but it did allow the flow of traffic. Gradually the mounds were also removed, leaving only some scattered objects such as a door, chairs or pieces of wood,
Neighborhoods became scenes of browns, greys, blacks and white, stark in their emptiness. The passage of vehicles was seldom, the mood, like the colors, somber. Weeks after the storm most of the city was still quiet, it was not an atmosphere I wanted to get used to.”
